DC Comics' all-time greatest villain.

Suffrage universel dédié à Ledru-Rollin, painted by Frédéric Sorrieu, 1850. This lithography pays tribute to French statesman Alexandre Auguste Ledru-Rollin for establishing universal male suffrage in France in 1848
As long-suffering readers'll know, this blog recently conducted a series of polls to discover just who is the greatest Marvel villain of all time.

But that's not enough for the world's most over-ambitious blog. It must also discover the identity of the greatest DC villain of them all.

Now, I could do what I did last time round and launch a poll to find the greatest enemy of each major DC hero, before putting together a final poll. The only problem is that doing it for the Marvel villains took so long that I - and I suspect everyone else - was losing the will to live by the time we actually got round to the final. Thus, like Giant-Man biting off the Blob's head, I'm going to get it all done in one go.

Therefore, nominate your favourite DC villain and, in a couple of days from now, I'll put it all together in a poll.

Once that's done, I'll pit DC's greatest villain against Marvel's and, at last, we'll know just who is the greatest comic book villain in history.

  1. Clearly the Joker will get a nomination and most probably win.

But Jokesy is linked to his hero like few other baddies. So I'll nominate Darkseid, who functions like a cross between Dr Doom and Galactus, and no wonder, as the same guy created all three - Jack Kirby.

  2. I suppose it will end up being 1 of the big 2; The Joker or Lex Luthor but my favourite DC villain was also Darkseid and as a kid I always loved seeing Brainiac in comics - then again few villains can strike terror in the heart in the way the Crazy Quilt can !!! oh I like Clayface also - McScotty

  5. DC never had a villain with the grandeur of Dr. Doom or Magneto until Darkseid, "The Tiger-Force at the Heart of Things!!!" He gets my vote although he's been poorly used for years- most recently in the Johns/Lee Justice League.

Although the darling of tattooed Goth boys the world over, I find the Joker very tiresome (unless it's Cesar Romero). Instead, I have a bit of a fondness for Ra's al Ghul. (I learned it was pronounced "Ray-sh" and not "Raaz" from the Batman Animated Series).

  6. Steve, there is only one "greatest" villain of all time as far as DC is concerned. That is the infamous, bald, clever, scheming villain known as Lex Luthor. His villany goes right back to the Golden Age!

  7. For me, it's a toss-up between Darkseid and Dan Jurgens.

  8. I'm saddened to see there's been no nominations for Wonder Woman villain Dr Domino, a man with a giant domino where his head should be: http://www.comicvine.com/doctor-domino/29-59515/

  9. Sure: Joker and Luthor. After that, I've got nothing. Starro? Deimos? Starfinger? Nah, I've got nothing.

  10. It has got to be the Anti-Monitor, he destroyed the Silver Age! He killed Barry Allen and Supergirl. He broke Roy Thomas' heart!

  12. I'm too late for the nominations? And I was going to go for Gorilla Grodd... or maybe the Atomic Skull...
    or The Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man...

I'll probably have to vote for some also-ran like Darkseid instead ;-)
