Special Bonus Feature! Magneto and Titanium Man animation. Paul McCartney and Wings.

Greetings, pop-pickers. I have nothing vital to do right now, so I thought that, for no reason other than that I like it, I'd post the above work which is an animated fan video for Wings' legendary track Magneto and Titanium Man - from the album Venus and Mars - which we all know is still the best song ever written that involves the Crimson Dynamo and a long, tall bank on the main street. I am especially taken by the sight of the late Jimmy McCulloch with a snooker ball for a head.

  1. Classic. I remember my dad buying this album, and being astonished that there was a grown-up mentioning comics, and not sneering. Wasn't easy being a comic fan back then.

  2. I can't help feeling the world would be a better place if more superstars wrote songs about super-villains.

  3. Steve-if you have time to kill I think the Telly is showing back-to-back Star Trek episodes!

  4. Don't have anything much to do right now myself Steve, so thought I'd post a link to a piece with the drawing Kirby did after the record came out and a photo of McCartney meeting the great man himself.

  5. It certainly is, Charlie. Although, for some reason, they decided to show the first half of the Voyager episode with the sound completely out of sync with the pictures. I liked it. It made the first half all seem like a weirdly pretentious flashback sequence.

Thanks for the link, Sean. If only that planned Olivia Newton John/Silver Surfer movie had happened, with Macca writing the songs.

  6. But then there probably wouldn't have been a Xanadu, Steve...

  7. I knew if this song but had never heard it until now. And I've just been reading an interesting interpretation of it.

The narrator, Magneto, Titanium Man and. Crimson Dynamo are a team of four heroes. The narrators girlfriend is robbing a bank and comes into conflict with the Fab Four. She ends up causing the four to split up because the narrator thinks she can do no wrong while the other three see her as the enemy.

Now here's the good bit. The Fab Four are the Beatles. Magneto and Titanium Man are McCartney and Harrison. Crimson Dynamo is a waste of space and only there for the ride so must be Ringo. The narrator is John Lennon. And the girlfriend is Yoko. It all fits together!

    1. I'm sorry, but Ringo is probably the most underrated of the Beatles. He was a very good beat-master that kept the boys from going all over the place. Hell, he was a jazz session drummer! Under appreciated just like Charlie Watts.

  8. That's odd. I've always interpreted it as being the other way round. That the narrator, Magneto, Titanium Man and the Crimson Dynamo set off to rob a bank with an unnamed female accomplice but then discover she's secretly working for the police and has betrayed them.

  9. I agree. I love Ringo's drumming. Especially on Abbey Road.
