It's time to take yet another sentimental journey, back to a time and place where most of life's problems could be solved by punching them.
At which point, the voluminous villain does what you'd expect him to do and sets out to kill the duo.
Fortunately, Iron Man's on hand to help foil that plan.
I think not.
After all, not only does Spider-Man rescue Sha Shan from the clutches of the Hobgoblin, he also discovers the true identity of the fiend.
And it only goes and turns out that he's Flash Thompson!
And I suspect that means King Maddoc isn't going to be king for much longer.
But what's this? All of that pales into insignificance next to Matt discovering Sister Maggie is his mother?
But one of them is determined to make sure that, from now on, there'll only one of him.
So, the gang decides to extract payment by using him as bait in a trap to capture Hawkeye.
But even more tension abounds on the human interest front, as Cap's girlfriend Bernie moves out to attend a distant law school.
And this wedding's incident is that Thunderbolt Ross shows up and shoots Rick Jones!
Needless to say, the fact that the world's greatest singer is lying in a pool of his own blood on the floor, in front of them, isn't enough to dissuade the bride and groom from getting on with tying the knot.
There's a lesson to be learnt by us all when a small-time thief breaks into Peter Parker's flat, steals his Spider-Man costume and then gets himself into a whole heap of trouble by wearing it - including having to single-handedly take on a criminal gang, under pressure from a demanding cop.
Needless to say, it'll take more than that to stop the canny Canuck.
And it seems the quartet's subsequent triumph is at the cost of Reed Richards' life!
In others, it isn't.
For instance, it's decided that he shall be the next ruler of Asgard.
On the other, Kurse shows up at the ceremony and kills him.

So - three this month! The Thor that I can barely remember, is usually the X-Men - which I’m guessing also featured interior art by Barry Smith? - and of course the DD.
DD 230 is even better than DD 229, and that’s saying something. That sequence in the Bugle offices where he heard Manolis murdered over the phone, his face becoming more angular and abstract as terror sets in!
I have a crystal clear memory of rushing into town to pick up this and Swamp Thing 48 - another astonishing comic - then getting the bus home in time to cycle an hour to my Grandparents’ cottage in the country.
*’hears’ not ‘heard’.
‘Unusually’ not ‘is usually’. I’m on a bus now as well, so hurrying.
Matthew:
Yes, that impressionistic / ultra cinematic sequence of Ben Urich witnessing Manolis’ murder over the phone was an absolute stunner back in the day. Masterful. JJJ all lit with Noir shadows while he calmly chews out Urich (‘You’re lucky I don’t fire you”) is another standout bit for me. Miller and Mazzuchelli could do no wrong at that point in time, taking Big Swings and hitting ‘em out of the park every single issue.
In other news:
I think I must have also got that X-MEN (because Barry) but dang if I can remember anything about it…
b.t.
That X-Men is basically one long Wolverine fight scene, b.t.
The only thing that makes it interesting, apart from the Baz artwork, is the guest appearance of Katie from Power Pack. As team-ups go, her and Woverine are a bit of a contrast.
Steve, I'm not convinced that Amazing Spidey #276 includes the greatest moment of melodrama ever.
What about Arsenal against West Ham earlier?

Melo-drama indeed, Sean, of the highest order! I’n torn though between being sick of Tottenham or City the most. Hence, I sort of won either way, today. CH
Let me help you out there, Charlie. The one to be sick of the most is Spurs.
Frankly, even I would have been ok with an equalizer as it would have helped with getting Spurs relegated.
I hope West Ham pull themselves together, and win their last games.

Amen!
SEAN! Thanks for helping Chicago Joe make up his mind! Maybe I can return the favor? For instance if one day you are unsure whether to cheer for the Chicago Cubs (aka “The Lovable Losers”) or Red’s Cincinnati Reds, let me know!
CH47
I was at the Cincinnati Cubs ground a few weeks ago CH47. I was amazed that they held such an amazing firework display after the first home game of the month ( that falls on a Friday or summit like that) the fireworks were better than the game for me ( and they lost heavily to LA Saints)
Not LA Saints I meant the LA Angels duh!!
This past week has been the 100th anniversary of the General Strike in Britain which lasted from May 4th to May 12th 1926.
McScotty! You were in Chicago? We could have had a couple soda pops together! Man oh man, next time gimme a holler!
CH
I was in Cincinnati CH sorry I got the baseball teams names all mixed up. We were at the Cincinnati Reds ground to see them play LA Angels. We were planning on visiting Chicago but time and other issues meant we couldnt manage that, maybe next year when we visit again
