Plunge with me into the past, using my patented Steve Does Comics Time-Plunger, guaranteed to never fail.

Thor #366, frog

Now Loki's in trouble.

Thor's back in Asgard and out to get him for turning him into a frog.

But it's actually Volstagg who turns out to be the hero of the day by finding the late Surtur's sword and using its magic to break the spell!

Fantastic Four #289

Speaking of trouble, Blastaar is back.

And so is Annihilus!

The Uncanny X-Men #204

I've read this story.

And I have absolutely no recollection of anything that happens in it.

But I do have a feeling Nightcrawler might be in a mood because his recent stint as an inter-dimensional swash-buckler is over.

Then again, I could be totally wrong.

The Spectacular Spider-Man #113

It's chewed fingernails all round, as the gang of thugs Ernie Popchik shot at, in the subway, turns up at May's boarding house to claim its revenge.

I believe this is another of those periodic stories where Peter decides to give up being Spider-Man, only for circumstances to force him to change his mind.

The Incredible Hulk #318

Bruce Banner's put together a crack team of cracked scientists in a bid to destroy the now-mindless Hulk, while Doc Samson's still out to track down the beast and give him a good chinning.

And what's this? Betty agrees to marry Bruce?

Well, we all know how that always ends.

Captain America, the Armadillo

As we all remember, the Armadillo is a man who became a deformed monster, in order to save the life of his beloved.

But now it's all gone wrong because he's found that self-same beloved is cheating on him!

There's only one thing for it.

He's going to have to go on a rampage!

The Avengers #266

The battle with the Beyonder may be out of the way but it's only gone and torn a great big hole in some mountains, leaving a huge gash in the Earth's crust that'll cause the planet's destruction within hours.

There's only one man can save the day.

And that's the Molecule Man.

But will he be willing to do it?

Daredevil #229

Matt Murdock's still blundering around feeling sorry for himself, now that the Kingpin's ruined his life.

And then he gets stabbed by a mugger.

There's only one thing for it.

He's going to have to get help from Sister Maggie.

You know?

Sister Maggie?

The one who's been there, right from the very birth of Daredevil?

You know? Along with Stick and Elektra?

You know? As featured in Daredevil #1 and Sons of Origins of Marvel Comics?

Conan the Barbarian #181

Conan arrives in town to warn some king or other of impending doom but ends up climbing a tower, to prove his worth - and, therein, finds a rather important prisoner....

The Amazing Spider-Man #275 , the Hobgoblin

Just when we'd all forgotten about the Hobgoblin (well, I had, anyway), he's back.

And so is the Rose who I'd also forgotten about.

But it's a rather unpleasant tale with Flash hitting both his girlfriend Sha Shan and Ned Leeds, before the Hobgoblin takes the poor woman hostage.

Iron Man #205 , MODOK

I'm struggling to recall anything that happens in this one but I have the feeling MODOK's corpse is under the remote control of someone at AIM who's out to gain command of the organisation.

Omg! Cap fights Armadillo man! Charlie learned last week that, while observing all the roadkill of armadillos in Mississippi, they are actually mammals!

It is true! They have seven vertebrae in the neck like we do!

Whilst in Mississippi, I did float the idea of maybe erecting an armadillo sanctuary as well as possibly venturing off into armadillo cheese. However, nobody is really sure how to milk an armadillo. But hey, if we can milk cats…

Thor and DD.

I think I've probably told this story before, but DD 229 is one of my favourite comics of all time. It's certainly the most exciting discovery.

I was on one of my annual teenage trips to London and went into [the original] Forbidden Planet. Picked up the New Mutants and Swamp Thing issues ahead of them hitting the newsstands, and a copy of DD 229 - issues 227 and 228 not yet having appeared where I lived. No internet. No access to any kind of comics community. Unprepared.

I can still feel the excitement as I opened it up - those black panels and the familiar lettering. The stunning art that was kinetic but precise. A feeling that the slog through the last couple of years had suddenly miraculously paid off.

229-241 are, for me, Miller's best writing and Mazzucchelli's finest art. One of the peaks of mainstream comics.

Steve, I think you're being a bit mean about Maggie - it's not like Matt even knows who she is or is seeking her out. She turns up unexpectedly in his life.

The (brilliant) DD was the only one of these I bought back in the day.

Except for that damn blue muscle T, that’s a pretty good Conan cover.

I see that Viktor Orban has been soundly defeated. I wonder if having creepy pig-eyed J.D. stump for him moved the needle…

b.t.

I think the drawback to Orban being defeated will be that Trump will be rattled and try even harder to cheat in the midterms. Viktor was one of his role models, and his loss will have him scrambling not to fall victim to the same fate.

*229-231 that should be.

Trump’s fillowers are starting to fragment. And they have big, fat ignorant mouths. There wont be as many goebbel-juniors lying for him. And they are calling attention to his misdeeds.

But the big question is du jour is what Melania was doing on national tv saying “Epstein files must be investigated “ a few days ago. That was weird.
