It must have been a dilemma, knowing just what to see when you went to the cinema in June 1987.
That's because it was a month that saw the release of such memorable offerings as Harry and the Hendersons, The Untouchables, Predator, The Witches of Eastwick, Roxanne, Dragnet and Spaceballs.
Granted, not all those films were what could be called masterpieces - one or two of them might even be called not good, by a man less charitable than me - but they were, at least, memorable.
I shall, of course, nominate Predator as my Film of the Month because who doesn't like to see people being slaughtered by monsters in the woods?
When it came to music, June kicked off with Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) at Number One on the UK singles chart, before that had to make way for the power and majesty of The Firm's Star Trekkin' which then had to subside before the pomp and bombast of the Pet Shop Boys' It's a Sin.
However, over on the accompanying album chart, the period was totally dominated by Whitney Houston, with her self-titled 2nd album managing to stay on top for the entire month.
And what of the Galaxy's Greatest Comic?
Shockingly, it was giving us Anderson PSI Division, Rogue Trooper, Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog.
But, just to shake things up a bit, it did also supply us with The Return of the Mean Team, D.R. & Quinch's Agony Page and a single-page Tales From Mega-City One.

Steve from the UK and all others ... queue the segue here… you MUST youtube “cheese rolling 2025 flying man!”
It is absolutely mind boggling what happens to this dude, one among dozens of men chasing the rond of cheese rolling down a hill. (Think medevac.)
Btw… for the female races a from North Carolina has won one of the female races two years in a row!
(Charlie finally caught up with this year’s highlights! When Colin mentioned it, the videos had not yet been posted.)
That’s a pretty solid group of 2000 AD covers. I think the red color-hold one is very striking.
I liked THE UNTOUCHABLES a lot , thought PREDATOR was decent and found SPACEBALLS just plain awful. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone that likes that movie, not even as a guilty pleasure.

For 12 years, every work day, Charlie walked past the staircase of the famous “baby buggy shoot out” in the Untouchables.
It is a pretty decent movie too. Need to re-watch it.
Side note: some of Charlie’s older relatives shot it out with the Untouchables lol. Legends of Nefarious activities seem to survive the generations better than “he was a really kind and generous soil.”
Oof. Sorry, BT. I think those are some ropey covers. Two Robin Smiths in a row, possibly the worst Belidarnelli art I’ve ever seen, and a nicely coloured but otherwise just OK Ezquerra.
I saw most of those films except H&TH, but not at the time. Mostly on VHS a few years later.
I like Predator, but definitely not as much as other people do. Some think it’s a classic, but I think it’s a bit flabby and cheesy in places. Unlike, say, Aliens which plays it dead straight and doesn’t have a wasted frame.
I have run hot and cold on The Untouchables over the years but have settled on it being very handsome and entertaining but - again - not a classic.
I’ve only seen bits and pieces of Spaceballs in clips and on TV. It’s always looked just completely shit. And about 5 years too late (Star Wars was completely over by 1987).
Love that Whitney song, not all that keen on Its A Sin, tbh.
“Ropey covers”, indeed — HOW DARE YOU!!!
Kidding, obviously 😁— on second glance, they’re really not very good. I guess the 2000 AD covers here have been so drab lately (except for the occasional O’Neil or McCarthy) that I got a bit carried away. Also, the actual printing quality no longer makes them look like something that would give you a rash if you handled them without rubber gloves, so I’m mentally awarding an extra half-star just for that.

Charlie, when did I mention cheese rolling???
Predator features the classic Arnie quote "GET TO DA CHOPPA!!"
Star Trekkin' is without doubt one of the greatest #1 hits of the '80s...
