Charlie now 64 never had one. Charlie’s younger brother now 62 never had one. Charlie’s younger brother now 58 was gifted a rubber Batman by Charlie when he was like 5. Charlie had a good time playing with it and to this day the fact that Charlie monopolized the rubber batman is a legend!

May Charlie interject an ad hoc question for the masses? I am doing my steve does Comics correspondence sitting in my car at lunchtime where the temperature is a solid 95°. I am not running the air conditioning or anything because the office is so cold that I, and many others, cannot stand it. In fact, many of the ladies have space heaters running. The temperature supposedly is about 72° inside the offices.
So… Describe your relationship to the summer heat. Are you one of those who like a constant temperature? or, do you like to be cold in the summer? Perhaps you prefer the heat?
BT! Funny you should ask!!! I don’t recall the rubber Batman strictly a daring to the Batman color scheme. Indeed, I have a recollection of him being mostly blue and purple. Are we thinking about the same rubber Batman, lol?
I seemed to enjoy playing with it because I could bend it in any direction though not stretch it.

I had an Action Man. It was a Christmas gift in the mid-70s. I clearly remember my Mum buying it in the village and me begging to play with it on the way home, but she didn't fold. I didn't get it til Xmas Day.
That's it, I think. I was given a Todd McFarlane Miracleman statue a few years back but I sold it.
Otherwise, I've been action-figure-free.

I like hot weather. I don't burn easily, and I tan quickly and I don't mind sweating so I really like it when it's hot. I was getting a bit exhausted and worried about the plants and the cats when it was 104 degrees back in 2021. But generally there's no such thing as 'too hot' for me.
I had a Cherilea Batman and Robin figure several Action men, and a Captain Scarlet bendy figure when I was between 5 and 11 years old. As ab older child ( about 8 years ago) I picked up Batman, Catwoman and Superman figures in the Bruce Timmy style on a whim - I still have Catwoman and Superman. I was also bought a limited edition Barbie as Ziggy Stardust doll which has pride of place in my attic room .
Colin, thanks for the topic. The only action figure I ever had was an Action Man but, one day, his lower leg dropped off and that was the end of his career.
Charlie, I like to be cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Charlie:
I had a purple soft rubber Batman with wires in his arms and legs when I was around 6 or 7. There was also a blue rubber Batman from around the same time period that didn’t have wires ; it came attached to a stretchy cord so you could dangle him or swing him around. I think that one is referred to as the “Batman jiggler”. I never had one of those, but they must have been pretty popular — I used to see them at convention dealers tables all the time.
As for your hot / cold question : I hate hot weather.

Paul - I'd forgotten about Bendy toys. Aged 3/4, I had Mickey Mouse. Years later, Bendy toys disintegrated when squeezed, the plastic having turned brittle. All that was left was the toy's metal 'skeleton', within whatever bits were left. An ignominious end!
Charles - anything over 21 degrees is too hot to walk home carrying groceries!

Philip, that's what happened to my Captain Scarlet (Pedigree) bendy toy, his left foot got hard and slowly crumbled.
Charlie, I'm a typical Brit re weather I complain about the dreich weather and after a couple of days of high temperatures I complain it's to hot . Ideally I like a nice mild day with no rain.
Thanks for the comments. The only action figures I had were Planet Of The Apes and Star Trek ones but I remember watching TV ads for Action Man with all his different costumes and accessories and wishing I had an Action Man. I also remember desiring the Lone Ranger action figure with his horse Silver because Silver looked so impressive with his articulated legs.
Charlie, I hate hot weather but it rarely gets very hot in Britain. My perfect Summer day is dry with a cool breeze.
Phillip, I'd totally forgotten about those Cyborg figures - my friend Carl Coffey gave me a Cyborg for my 13th birthday but I was too old for action figures by then!
I had action man (both the ‘talking’ version (action man patrol, fall) and the one with realistic hair and gripping hands). In those days he was either a blond or brown-haired suede-head, who was partial to paramilitary apparel. He’d no-doubt be cancelled nowadays.
I also had a few of the Palitoy (Mego) Planet of the Apes figures plus Spider-man. A kid at school had the Palitoy Captain America which I coveted verily. He wasn’t even a comics fan, which seemed cruel.

Charlie, I prefer cool, dry weather which is ironic given I live in a sub-tropical climate. I mostly stay inside (in the air-con.) but a short walk to the car is enough to compromise your smalls. However, it’s the humidity rather than the heat that is the killer. I spent January in the UK and was dead serious when I told people the weather was glorious, as it rarely got above freezing point.

I'm embarassed to admit it, but I bought them in my thirties,
I guess for sentimental reasons; the ones I had as a kid all got broke.
I have a few superheroes. Even Space Ghost!
Anybody remember Stretch Armstrong? Well, when I was a kid I had his enemy, Stretch Monster.
Jesus, my dog hated that thing. He drug that heavy-ass thing up and down the stairs, thud thud thud, even bit it hard enough so that some of the weird jelly came out.
I'm not even gonna talk about what he did to my Evil Kineival action figure.
I loved that dog, but he could be a little @#$*er sometimes.

M.P. - My brother's tiny micronaut figure manned a little vehicle called the "Hydra" ! There was also a nifty catalogue, entitled 'The Interchangeable World of the Micronauts' !
Colin - I had a friend who knew about all the coolest toys & stuff first. His parents took him to a discount wholesaler ( 'Makro' ), where he also got Cyborg accessories, like the Invader/Interceptor! That being said, his tips were always on the money. He also recommended 'Military Planes' ( my first Top Trumps pack! )

Only action figures I had were a few G.I. Joes; the original 12" figures. Long gone now, blown up in my stupid teen years with firecrackers. Yes, I'm part of the reason why original vintage toys are scarce to find. I did have Gumby and Pokey, bendable but not really action-oriented. Always wanted a Major Matt Mason figure and accessories when I was a kid, but never got one.
Weather-wise, I'm not a fan of hot weather. The heat and humidity of the Ohio Valley gets pretty oppressive. Give me a nice crisp Autumn day every time...
Today is 40 years since Madonna reached No.1 in the UK singles chart for the first time and I'd considered asking a Madonna-related question but I wasn't sure if there'd be much interest from the SDC readers so the topic of action figures seemed like safer ground.

Charlie, air-conditioning is a waste of money in this country as it's hardly ever needed - a piece of card waved in front of the face will suffice most of the time during our "hot" weather.
COLIN - can appreciate your more moderate climes. When I lived in southern Germany for four years, it was rare indeed to find a day that ever hit 90°F. Consequently air-conditioning didn’t exist excepting businesses.

Not a massive Madonna fan here, but such is the quality of her backroom collaborators over the years that there’s a fair few tracks I’ve liked.
Open Your Heart is by far my favourite song of hers. It’s lovely, and the chugging electronics and real drums work a treat.
