I often profess ignorance of most of the movies I mention in my posts but, June 1986 was replete with films of which even I've heard.
The problem is I don't remember liking any of them. Therefore, it's a struggle to nominate my Steve Does Comics Film of the Month but, if pressed, I shall go for Ruthless People.
I'm going to assume, though, that she will try and make the Vision do her bidding, as that is her usual modus operandi when dealing with men.
But will her powers work on an android?
And, also, will the Executioner show up in his usual huff?
But can he manage to survive it, seeing as he must endure an encounter with Wolverine?
It would appear that someone called the Overrider gains control of a robot created, by the American government, to eliminate super-soldiers.
Given their back-stories, this does sound like the sort of thing that both Captain America and Wolverine would take an interest in.
In this one, a legend is born when Mojo kidnaps Betsy Braddock. A circumstance that leads to her gaining new eyes and the name Psylocke!
In other news, the New Mutants meet Captain Britain, while someone called Cypher merges with Warlock.
That's the robot Warlock. Not Adam Warlock.
All I know beyond that is she is, allegedly, based on Emma Peel and that her comic will survive for just five issues.
Not to mention it possessing a J M DeMatteis script titled Candles.
Of course, if he'd had any class, he'd have called it Four Candles.
Regardless, do I know what it involves?
No, I don't.
And let us end with the Avengers' 15th annual. One in which the eastern and western teams take each other on in a baseball game!
Unfortunately for them - but, possibly fortunately for anyone who doesn't like baseball - they're attacked by Freedom Force who intend to arrest them - just as they've also attempted to arrest the X-Men, this month.
Freedom Force are victorious and take their captives to a place called the Vault where they're to be tried for treason, thanks to the testimony of one of their own former members!

I paid cash money to see two of the movies listed here in the theatre. I liked RUTHLESS PEOPLE and hated INVADERS FROM MARS. I got around to watching FERRIS BUELLER’S DAY OFF just a few years ago. People really seem to love that movie but I thought it was smug and just not very funny.
DAKOTA NORTH was the only one of these Lucky Bag goodies that I got back in the Long Ago. I liked Tony Salmons’ artwork a lot, and he got even better later on. The VIGILANTE mini-series that he did with James Robinson in the early 90s is STUNNING.
b.t.
I saw Labyrinth at the cinema but I’m sure it was in 1985 - the things that were going on in my life were definitely not 1986 things. Weird. The internet thinks otherwise though. Oh well.
Saw Ferris Bueller and Mona Lisa on VHS. I don’t like Ferris Bueller either - difficult to take life lessons from a smug rich kid with no problems of his own. I kind of like Mona Lisa but the whole Palace Pictures 80s Brit neo-noir thing was laid on a bit thick in those days. Verging on pastiche. My wife likes it a lot though so there’s a copy in the house.
None of those comics! I read a TPB of Moonshadow 20 years later, though, and did not like it one bit.
PS I did not like Labyrinth. Even then it seemed like a dog’s dinner.
Look. Ferris is a classic. Nuff said.
Emma Peel. Do folks know who she is? I only stumbled over her a few months ago. Was she popular in the UK?
CH
I had none of these comics but I did see Ferris, Labyrinth and Ruthless People at the cinema in 86. Like CH I really enjoyed Ferris and I also thought Labyrinth was pretty good and not just because it had Bowie in it.
I picked up the New Mutants annual as it was illustrated by Alan Davis and continued the Captain Britain story from the cancelled CB monthly. It was nice to see new Davis CB art, but the story wasn’t very good. I suspect I’ll give Excalibur a go, but will soon say goodbye to Captain Britain (as others have already, I believe).
Of the movies I only recall Mona Lisa, which includes a memorable Bob Hoskins’ head-butt. The allure of Bowie and John Hughes must’ve have faded by 1986. I think I started Karate Kid 2, but would have given up quite early.

Charlie, Emma Peel was very well known, in both Britain and America.
Charlie - Many think, in the Avengers' hell-fire club episode ("A Touch of Brimstone" ), Emma Peel was Claremont's inspiration for Dark Phoenix!
Phillip
Charlie, Emma Peel was also a play on words...
Emma Peel = M appeal = man appeal.
I had no idea about the Emma Peel name pun Colin.
You're never too old to learn something new, Paul.
Phillip, more precisely that Avengers episode was probably the inspiration for Jean Grey becoming the Black Queen of the Hellfire Club immediately BEFORE she transformed into Dark Phoenix.
Colin - Yes; if Charlie watches the episode, he'll see that!
Phillip
Good grief! Charlie must be delirious because the United States is at the top of the table in their group!
Anyhow, he confused Emma Peel with Miss Fisher the Australian detective set in mid1920s.
Apologies to all!
M-Appeal - good one Colin!
Omg… Costco has Halloween stuff on sale! It’s 4.5 months away! Tesco too?
No Halloween or Christmas stuff in Tesco yet, Charlie!
STEVE - I see where the UK has banned social media in varying degrees for those under 16. Will this impact SDC? Should we take to the streets and protest?
I don't think SDC will be affected, Charlie, but YouTube is being included in this under-16 ban so now we'll have to provide age verification just to watch a pop video - all because parents can't control their kids!
Charlie, Starmer's released a list of sites that will need age-verification and, amazingly, this site isn't on it.
However, as far as I'm aware, the act will define "social media" as being any site that involves users leaving comments. Therefore, it's possible that sites like this may be forced to introduce age-verification at some point in the future.
This would, of course, only apply to people in the UK. Therefore, you'll be able to access it, even if no one else can.
No age verification on Steve Does Comics? Well that's just not a level playing field, Steve. But good luck making the most of the unfair advantage it gives you over Mark Zuckerberg and the rest!
Tbh I think it would be more sensible to regulate social media companies a bit. Just make them as responsible as any other media for what for what they publi...
Oh wait no, sorry, I forgot, they aren't publishers, are they? If their platforms are used to post images of teenage girls with their clothes digitally removed, they can hardly be expected to do anything about it. Clearly its better to just ban under 16s than interfere with a seig heil-ing trillionaire like Elon Musk's freedom to keep pushing sh*te from "Tommy Robinson" at everyone else.
What a weak government the British have, allowing rich Americans to keep destabilizing their country.

I haven't read any of the comics featured in the post, Steve, or seen the films. Apart from a bit of 'Labyrinth', which did not strike me as one of Bowie's more convincing makeovers.
If it helps, I have heard the following records that came out this month:
The Queen is Dead - The Smiths
True Blue - Madonna
Evol - Sonic Youth
Bend Sinister - The Fall
Which might well be the most mid-80s list of albums you could ever come up with! Couldn't stand the first - I was ahead of the curve on finding Morrissey annoying - and the rest were ok for what they were.
My fave album of the month would be Spiral Insana, by post-Throbbing Gristle norf London surrealists Nurse With Wound -

As for singles... I believe 'The Final Countdown' came out, by Europe. Why that didn't cause Brexit 30 years before the referendum is anyone's guess.

That would be a hoot: only Red, BT, MP, Charlie… could access SDC!
