But this is a Tuesday and, thanks to that, there can be no rest for the feature that refuses to put its feet up.

Charlie needs to hear about something good b/c he just learned Gerry "The Killer" Conway is writing a What If for Marvel for this summer that is "What if Gwen Stacy had lived and Spider Man died?"

Charlie learned of this diabolical scheme reading the May issue of Marvel Previews. It is free at the LCBS. Comic sized and like 100 pages, it tells you what's being released over the coming months. Not as detailed as Stan's checklist but enlightening none the less!
The Good things I saw in it:
There are at least two comics coming out with the ORIGINAL green/white Marvel on the cover! Bout time some sanity reigned at that gin joint!
Hulk Treasury Edition # 2 is coming out. Man - just looking at Happy Herbe's cover (Hulk v. Golem) brought back a flood of nostalgia! It's $100 though which is "ouch."
And, there is a 100-page Moon Knight coming out which looks exciting and priced only at about $10.

The first thing that pops into my mind is the Hammer movie The Plague of the Zombies in which an unscrupulous squire decides zombies would be the perfect workforce for his mine and sets about converting the local villagers into that workforce. Serving as a bridge between traditional zombie movies and more modern examples of the genre, it has a strong sense of atmosphere, a sometimes nightmare-like quality and makes use of striking imagery.
The next two weekends are long holiday weekends in the UK so that's good.
RIP Harry Belafonte. The BBC reported his death on Radio 4's midnight news but they didn't even mention his mega-hit 'Mary's Boy Child' which spent 7 weeks at #1 in the UK singles chart in 1957.
I did not expect “Plague of the Zombies” to pop up as an example of something “good” :) — but I heartily second it. I can also recommend its “Sister” Hammer Horror, shot back-to-back with “Plague”, likewise set in Cornwall, directed by John Gilling and featuring Jacqueline Pearce, “ The Reptile”.
Here’s a “good” Pop Music two-fer — two super-catchy “one hit wonder” singles from 1975 by two seperate UK bands — “Magic” by Pilot and “Sky High” by Jigsaw. I sometimes get the two songs and the bands confused, even though they’re not really all that similar.

Ok Charlie, here's a few good things...
Good tv show; "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel". On Amazon Prime; it's absolutely wonderful. Great cast, well written, and very effectively set in the late 50's/early 60's New York City. My wife and I love it.
Good music: this past weekend, I picked up a nice box set of four cds; containing six albums by Thelonius Monk. So far I've heard nothing but good sounds; enjoying it thoroughly.
Good pastime: playing with my dog. Nothing helps dissipate negativity like the enthusiasm of a pup...
Good treat; Reese's peanut butter cups. An obvious choice, but still irresistable.
Good tech; Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE. Got one for Christmas, and it's a wonder. Best tablet I've ever had, and perfect for posting to SDC!
Oh, and great call on those two songs, b.t.! Favorites back then, and still good listens.
Bt, it's interesting that you get those two songs mixed up, because I always get Jigsaw's Sky High mixed up with Highfly by John Miles which really does sound like Pilot.
Colin, it was a strange omission. I wonder if they felt Mary's Boy Child has been more strongly associated with Boney M since the 1970s?

The night before last, I saw an owl. Small birds were making alarm calls - then a tawny owl flew in front of me, from right to left, slowly flapping its wings. A blackbird was chasing it! (In the back garden.)
A good (thrifty) purchase.
A few weeks ago, Tesco was selling entire cheesecakes for only 80p. I was wrong to purchase 2 of them, as my cholesterol's already too high (I learned recently.) But boy - were they good!

The sweep of huge trees the run alongside the railway behind my garden are coming into leaf. A wall of green. The dawn chorus has started up again.
Polly our younger cat is becoming more and more affectionate. She still brings us gifts - feathers, leaves, toys.
The local shops near me still sell full-fat Vanilla Coke. They started stocking it a couple of years ago and I thought it was a fad, but it's still going strong. Mmmm, Vanilla Coke & Vodka.

My luxury 4K edition of George Romero's 'Martin' arrived. Time to retire that battered old US DVD.
The full, unedited 12" version of 'ShellShock' by New Order have finally been released digitally. Time to retire the old rip from vinyl I did in 1998 on my Philips CD Recorder [RIP].

Read a good book The Paul McCartney Legacy, Volume 1, 1969 - 73. If you are into Paul and/or the Beatles, this is the deepest dive!
Some really Good Youtube talks about the "Physics behind Consciousness" with the UK Nobel Prize winner Roger Penrose.
New vinyl! Quality is superb! Charlie keeps adding slowly to the collection, but admittedly only Beatles or solo projects.
Me missus has resurrected her mom's Fruit Cocktail cake recipe from the 1960s! It has become all the rage on my side of the family. My 86 y.o. parents can't get enough of it! Oh lordy... the sauce of butter, sugar, and evaporated milk that one pours on top of the cake. Never knew how much I missed fruit cocktail!!!
And on that note, SDC always has been and remains "good" (actually great!)

How about going out blackberry picking in August with a bag of giant white chocolate buttons? You find an East facing bush with big juicy bullet shaped berries too high for digs to pee on. But you don't pick the berries with your fingers. You reach for a couple of white chocolate buttons, sandwich a berry between them, pull it off the bush and eat the white chocolate/blackberry sandwich.

Record: the Popol Vuh vinyl box set that came out a few years back, that included albums like 'Hosianna Mantra' and the soundtrack for Herzog's 'Nosferatu'.
Comic: the Graphitti Editions Blueberry hardback I still have, collecting a run of Jean Giraud westerns - Moebius' day job - from 'Angelface' to 'The End of the Trail'. Amazing.
Comedy: Brexit. Seven years since the referendum - and five prime ministers later - its still endlessly amusing. The gift that keeps on giving.

Charlie, why is 'What If Gwen Stacey Had Lived And Spider-Man Died?' a "diabolical scheme" in your opinion? The whole point of 'What If' has always been to ask such questions. Anyway Marvel has already sort of brought Gwen Stacy back to life as Spider Gwen, an alternate Earth version of Spider-Man.
